ISLAMABAD:
Traffic violators beware! The capital’s traffic officers are looking to improve their vision.
The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) officers got their eyesight checked over the weekend at a two-day camp organised by the Brien Holden Vision Institute at the ITP headquarters.
Three eye specialists and paramedics from the institute, a global organisation working on eye care research, checked the eyesight of all ITP personnel.
The objective of the camp, arranged in connection with World Sight Day which falls on October 10, was to ensure that traffic officers perform their duties on the road with perfection while protecting their eyes from dust and the sun, representatives of ITP and the institute said.
Samrana Yaseen, programme manager of the institute, said doctors checked the eyes of policemen with the latest medical equipment.
She said policemen had to perform their duties on the roads in tough weather conditions and the doctors gave tips to the policemen on ways to protect their eyes while on duty.
Free glasses were also distributed among the policemen at the camp.
Islamabad Inspector General of Police Sikandar Hayat appreciated the gesture of the Brien Holden Vision Institute. Hayat said such activities and acts of kindness by citizens and private organisations always encourage policemen to perform their job with more enthusiasm in the future.
Acting Senior Superintendent Police (Traffic) Asmatullah Junejo also praised the cooperation of the institute with ITP.
Junejo said traffic policemen would be further facilitated to maintain good health because it is imperative for their better performance in the field.
