RAWALPINDI:

The DNA test of a woman allegedly raped by five men in Gujar Khan last week has confirmed that the 20-year-old was sexually assaulted.

A police official, requesting anonymity, said the alleged rapists — who belonged to the Gujar Khan police’s national volunteers — have confessed to the crime during initial interrogations. The suspects are presently in police custody on a physical remand.

“One of the volunteers allegedly had an affair with the girl who took her to his house where he also called his other friends,” he said, adding that the girl tried to run but they overpowered her.

An official said the two families may reach an understanding as both belong to poor households. “The victims family may be compensated by the perpetrators’”, he said, adding that nevertheless, the police will not allow anyone to unduly pressure her family as authorities are strictly monitoring the case.
