A 55-year-old man, who was arrested for allegedly molesting a minor girl in New Karachi a few days ago, died during treatment at a hospital on Friday.
The accused, Chanesar, was arrested from Khamiso Goth, New Karachi on September 29, for allegedly molesting his neighbour. The seven-year-old girl, M*, daughter of a labourer, Salamat, had reportedly gone to a nearby store when the incident occurred. The girl was taken to Jinnah Postgradaute Medical Centre for medical examination where Dr Rohina Hassan had also confirmed signs of molestation.
"When the residents came to know about the incident, they beat him severely before we reached there," said SHO Rehmatullah, while talking to The Express Tribune. He was later taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. "A crowd of more than 250 people severely beat him," the officer explained.
Meanwhile, sources in the hospital told The Express Tribune that the accused was in a critical condition when he was brought to the hospital. "He could not even speak or eat food," said the hospital sources. "Two of his ribs were broken and he had several internal injuries."
SHO Rehmatullah said that a case against the crowd has been registered, adding that the neighbours and relatives of M* were responsible for the beating. Police have registered a case on behalf of the state against 250 people.
