Friday was tough day for the Awami National Party (ANP) as two of their leaders were attacked in Orangi Town. Khitabullah, 40, was gunned down in drive-by shooting, while Rafique Khan Afridi escaped a bomb attack on his residence.
Khitabullah was visiting his son at a tailoring shop near his residence in MPR Colony in Orangi Town when armed motorcyclists opened fire and killed him on the spot. The body of the ANP leader was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for an autopsy. No case has been registered.
In the second incident, a locally-made cracker bomb was lobbed at the house of Afridi in Orangi Town. District West police chief DIG Javed Odho said initial investigations reveal the cracker bomb was lobbed over the non-payment of extortion money.
Condemning both the incidents, a spokesperson for the ANP demanded the law enforcers should arrest the culprits. He alleged that members of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan were targeting workers of the ANP to force them to leave the party. "This is not the first time members of the ANP in Karachi are targeted," the spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, a young man was found dead in Lyari, said Kalakot police, adding he was killed after being kidnapped. The body was moved to Edhi morgue for identification after medico-legal formalities were completed at Civil hospital.
