SU student dies as bus overturns

A buffalo suddenly walked onto the road, causing a private van that was right in front of the bus to brake abruptly.

JAMSHORO: A student of Sindh University (SU) died while several others were injured when their point bus overturned near the Jamhoro filter plant on Monday.

The accident occurred around 8:30 am when the scheduled point bus of Tando Wali Muhammad route, carrying about 40 to 45 students, was on its way to the university. According to witnesses, a buffalo from the kachcha area suddenly walked onto the road, causing a private van that was right in front of the point bus to brake abruptly. The driver of the bus also tried to stop but he was unable to control the vehicle and it ran over the footpath before flipping over onto the main road. Seventeen-year-old Neetu Meghwar, who was in the front seat, died on the spot.

The injured students were shifted to Civil Hospital. Following the incident, students of the university held a protest on campus against the accident and demanded action against the driver.

SU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Nazir A Mughal expressed deep sorrow over the demise of the student, who was in the second year of her Postgraduate Diploma in Library and Information Science. On the VC’s directives, several university officials went to the girl’s house and expressed their condolences. A report submitted by the transport in-charge stated that the bus driver, Azam Pathan, is also owner of the bus. He also received injuries and fractured both his legs.
