A local court on Tuesday expressed displeasure at the hospitalisation of a former magistrate in Polyclinic who is facing graft charges and sought replies from Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) secretary and a director of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on the issue.
Islamabad High Court judge Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui summoned CADD Secretary Faridullah Khattak and FIA Director Captain (retd) Zafar Iqbal to submit their replies on Wednesday on a petition against the former magistrate, Farrukh Nadeem, for his alleged role in the Rs1.5-million-land scam.
The suspect had been admitted at Polyclinic, allegedly in a bid to delay his arrest. On Tuesday, the court had summoned Polyclinic Executive Director Zahid Hussain to explain the reasons behind admitting the suspect.
The court, however, was not satisfied with Hussain’s explanation and asked senior officials of CADD and FIA to explain their reasons.
The ED along with two doctors informed the court that the patient had been admitted to the hospital owing to his poor health condition. The doctors informed the court that Nadeem had multiple problems including kidney and heart and was thus hospitalised immediately.
The doctors said Nadeem was later transferred to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) and is presently under-treatment there.
Justice Siddiqui expressed annoyance at the hospital’s action of admitting the patient without checking his background.
The court directed the hospital officials to submit a detailed report on the issue and also directed the investigation officer of FIA to appear before the court and explain how Nadeem was admitted into a hospital despite being accused of a serious crime.
The court also ordered the head of Pims, Professor Mehmood Jamal, to furnish details about the health condition of the suspect on the next date of hearing.
Nadeem was arrested by the police on September 16 from outside IHC after his bail was rejected. The FIA had registered an FIR against Nadeem for allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs1.5 million in a land transfer deal.
