HYDERABAD/KARACHI:

The massive earthquake that ravaged parts of Balochistan also jolted southern Sindh. The tremor, lasting a few seconds, whipped up fear and panic among occupants of multi-story apartment and commercial buildings in the urban centres of the province.

The tremor was reportedly felt in Hyderabad, Kotri, Jamshoro, Sehwan, Thatta, Badin, Tando Mohammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Nawabshah and Tando Jam. Luckily, no casualties or damage to property were reported in Sindh.

“No damage was reported in any part of the province, including Karachi,” Zahid Rafi, director of the Earthquake Monitoring Network said. He added that the shockwave in Sindh was measured 4 to 5 on the Richter Scale.

In megacity Karachi, panicked residents and office workers were seen rushing out of the buildings, chanting holy verses.
