Gambling dens: 37 policemen lose powers

The police authorities have taken action against 37 policemen for their alleged involvement in collecting extortion from dens that are allegedly involved in organised crimes. Six of these policemen have been suspended and the remaining ones have been stripped of all powers until inquiries against them are complete. Sources privy to the matter told The Express Tribune that action was taken by police officials following the internal investigations by the special branch. District South topped the list with nearly 39 gambling and narcotics dens. District South police chief DIG Abdul Khalique Shaikh confirmed the suspensions and said that further investigations were underway.
