Wali Babar murder: Only surviving witness kept in safe custody

The police have taken into safe custody the only surviving eyewitness in the murder case of Wali Khan Babar. The eyewitness, whose identity has not been disclosed for security reasons, is a vegetable vendor.



“They (culprits) killed the man who noticed the registration number of the car at the time of the incident. He was buying vegetables at that time, and had later informed the police,” said SHO Shafiq Tanoli, the investigating officer of the case.


Babar was murdered while he was on his way to his home from office in the Liaquatabad in January 2011. Four witnesses, including Rajab, who noticed the attacker’s Suzuki Cultus car’s number, have been gunned down so far. Moreover, SHO Tanoli’s brother, Naveed, and his cousin, Faisal, have also been killed during the course of the case.“Now, Babar’s brother, Mohabbat Wali, the vegetable vendor and I are pursuing the case,” the officer explained. The mastermind of Babar’s killing, Liaquat aka Liaquat Tension, was also killed by police in an alleged encounter, while five of his group members are currently facing trial under the Anti-Terrorism Act.


On Thursday, AIG of Police Shahid Hayat informed the apex court that the cases of witnesses killed in the Wali Babar case have reopened and the key witness is alive.
