On September 16, 2010, 50-year-old Farooq was on his way home from work when he was attacked in Green Lane, outside his London home.
Earlier in the day, the London police, investigating the murder of Farooq, said the politician's wish to launch a new political party before his death continued to be a key line of inquiry in the murder investigation.
Talking to the media in Karachi, Maqbool said that he hoped Farooq and his family would be given justice.
"Whatever is being said against MQM is not verifiable enough to be presented as news," he said, adding that he hoped facts would come forward.
MQM leader Haider Abbas Rizvi said that people had been weaving tales of MQM's involvement with Imran Farooq's murder but to no avail.
MQM chief Altaf Hussain was previously interrogated by the London Police over the murder as well as suspicions of money laundering.
"From Pakistan to Britain, people have been trying to frame MQM for Imran Farooq's murder but MQM's involvement in the killing is only a figment of someone's imagination," he said, while talking to the media in Karachi.
The MQM leader said that when people create stories, they want it to be real but a conspiracy is a conspiracy.
Maqbool added that people can try their best to frame MQM but they won't be successful.
MQM protests against Karachi operation
MQM staged a walkout in the Sindh Assembly Monday in protest of the recent arrest of party leaders.
"Despite the Karachi operation, there has been no decrease in crimes in the city," said MQM MNA, Asif Husnain.
The party demanded that their leaders who had been arrested be freed, including former MPA Nadeem Hashmi.
Hashmi was arrested for allegedly firing at a police mobile and killing two police personnel Muhammad Ali and Arif in Hyderi.

This is for ET. Why they are showing picture of Mr Rizvi but statement by Mr Maqbool in the news article ?
@imran: Mr Altaf Hussain can celebrate his birth day in a better way by letting us know how he got this $ 600000 sitting in one of his houses? By the way how he bought his houses? From where he got that money? What kind of work he does that he has so much money. I challenge Mr Hussain to release his tax returns for the last 21 yrs. he came to London in 1992. He is British national now
Happy birthday to Altaf Bhai and many many happy returns of the day. May you have a long life and you keep guiding the nation towards glory
@Aysha M: agreed. and this act of dignifying the allegation with a response might actually be a establishment conspiracy. Got it?

I think MQM should understand that the bubble is going to burst soon, so its rather time to stop running!
So there is no stopping to you.
Can Mr Maqbool explain about $600000 found in one of the houses , owned by Mr Altaf Hussain ? That money was confiscated by British Govt. from where it came from? Did Mr Altaf Hussain earn it? Why it was not sitting in a Bank account? Why was it in Cash form? Any body from MQM with any explaination ???
Imran Farooq was loyal to MQM...but MQM was not.
Agreed.
I am not pretty much aware about the allegations which was raising MQM but as governorship of MQM left suddenly his own country with his family I don't think it is a good charm for future of MQM in Karachi.
Why not send a legal notice to the Scotland Yard this time?
I think MQM should understand that the bubble is going to burst soon, so its rather time to stop running!
Why do these speculation take a hike as his death anniversary approached. Soctland Yard & Metropolitan Police should be ashmaed for their in-eligibility. Such a high profile case and they are still empty handed. It seems to be to hide their failure, they've brought in Money Laundering Scheme & now these crazy speculation.
If he was loyal to MQM, then it explains why he wanted to make a new party. Perhaps to cleanse MQM of the bad elements and people who are disguising under its banner. Now if current MQM really is interested to find out about its killer, why doesn't it insist the govt or protest against the govt to release people who Scotland Yard is after to interrogate, and suspect that they might be involved in IF's murder?
I do not want to assume anything. Would be nice if someone can answer these questions in a civilized manner.
MQM should not dignify this allegation with a response.
every single word uttered of their mouth, contradict itself.
The number of explanations you are compelled to give after every update on the murder case is self explanatory. Imran Farooq was murdered for the same reason as Azeem tariq, wonder why MQM never talks about Azeem Tariq who was one of the founding members.
and so was Azeem Tariq..
