Gathering support: ‘Will quit if found guilty of corruption’

Fazl promised to restore peace in the region with the help of the JUI-F candidate after the by-polls

TANK:
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Saturday said he would quit politics if any allegation of corruption is proven against him. Addressing a public gathering of JUI-F supporters in Tank, Fazl said he had never indulged in corruption throughout his political career, adding people should be aware only JUI-F can provide them with their rights. He urged his supporters to vote for JUI-F’s candidate for NA-25, Maulana Asad Mehmud, in the by-polls scheduled for September 18. Talking about his differences with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led provincial government, Fazl said the disagreements were not personal but ideological in nature. The maulana said he would have no qualms about the PTI government if it worked for the betterment of the nation. Fazl promised to restore peace in the region with the help of the JUI-F candidate after the by-polls, adding they would visit every house to campaign for his son Maulana Mehmud. Fazl won the NA-25 seat in the May 11 general elections but later vacated it, leaving his son to contest in the by-polls earlier scheduled for August 22. However, the polls had to be postponed due to the uncertain law and order situation in the constituency and will now be held on September 18.
