Around 16 suspected cases of dengue were received by two allied hospitals in the last 48 hours, official sources said on Tuesday.

According to the data available, the number of patients suspected of contracting the virus has increased from 140 to 156 in the last two days, out of which 10 patients were admitted to Holy Family Hospital (HFH) and three in Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH).

Focal person for Rawalpindi Medical College (RMC) and allied hospitals, Dr Javed Hayat said, “Presently only two dengue positive patients are under treatment in HFH and one in BBH. The risk of dengue fever will end by mid-October when the weather cools.” Dr Hayat added that preventive measures were in place to meet any eventuality.

Rawalpindi District Health Officer Dr Ansar Ishaque said a fumigation drive was underway in the city, especially in areas where dengue larva has been found. He advised people to adopt precautionary measures and said dengue fever was curable if treated in time.
