MUMBAI: India Couture Week is currently under way in Mumbai and there’s a sizeable Bollywood presence in the front rows and on the runway. After Manish Malhotra roped in actor and former Miss World winner Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to participate at his show, Karan Johar upped the ante with getting Amitabh Bachchan and Hrithik Roshan — who he directed in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Ghum — to walk the runway for his collaborative designs with Varun Behl.

As the two showstoppers — Bachchan dressed in a black overcoat with aviator sunglasses and Roshan in a military jacket — came to take the final bow with the designers, Johar suggested that they get Shah Rukh Khan, who was sitting in the first row, on the ramp too. The move was met with applause by the contingent of stars in the audience, especially after Khan got Bachchan and Roshan to dance on the runway as well.

Johar’s show was attended by the who’s who of Bollywood, including Shah Rukh’s wife Gauri, Hrithik Roshan’s wife Suzanne, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena, Karisma, Anil and Sonam Kapoor, Urmila Matondkar, Raveena Tandon, Rahul Khanna, Rani Mukherjee and Preity Zinta.

Khanna tweeted before the show: “Tonight the suit, boot, Brut trifecta seems most apropos. It is, after all, to couture week we go.” Shah Rukh Khan, who has done runway appearances before, tweeted that he was “ill at ease at fashion shows.” Roshan, on the other hand, tweeted that he was “sharing the stage with the man who made him want to be an actor.”

Director-turned-designer Karan Johar said, “The idea was to get people together with whom I connect personally. It was all about having friends and family supporting you.”

Actor Salman Khan plans to have Bollywood stars in his ‘Being Human’ show as well. According to reports, he will have Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra, Karisma Kapoor and Preity Zinta participating in his show, which will take place on Saturday. Other Bollywood celebrities expected to show up on the runway for other shows include Kareena Kapoor and former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen.
