Assault: 50 students robbed on KU bus

KARACHI:

Students of the University of Karachi (KU) were robbed of their valuables in broad daylight after five armed men intercepted the varsity’s bus on Bacha Khan Flyover in Banaras, Orangi Town, on Tuesday.

Around 50 male and female students were on their way to the varsity when the incident happened. After storming into the bus, the outlaws held the students hostage at gunpoint and took away their valuables, including their cell phones, cash, degrees and certificates. The students staged a protest outside Abdullah College in North Nazimabad.

Police reached the spot and assured the students of their cooperation, which led to the end of the protest. Pirabad SHO Abdul Moeed said that a case has been registered against unidentified suspects and police were trying to draw the sketches of the culprits with the help of the witnesses.

In June, KU vice-chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Qaiser while talking to The Express Tribune had announced that around 30 buses of the KU will have armed security guards on-board. The university, however, has yet to implement this decision.
