ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court on Tuesday summoned the capital’s top police officials in response to a petition filed by a G-11 resident seeking the recovery of a cousin who went missing in August.

Justice Noorul Haq N Qureshi directed Ramna police’s senior superintendent of police and station house officer to appear in person before the court on Wednesday (today) after Zafar Iqbal — from Mardan District but currently residing in the capital — filed a petition seeking the recovery of his cousin, Rehmat Ali, who went missing from Sector G-11/1 on August 30.

Petitioner’s counsel Advocate Abid Ali Khan maintained that Ali had gone missing while he was on the way to Iqbal’s home on August 30.

He claimed that Ali’s family had searched for him at the Ramna, Golra and Sabzi Mandi police stations but failed to find any clues of his whereabouts.

Khan alleged that the Ramna police had illegally detained Ali but denied this when the victim’s family approached them. He said that the police should have produced Ali before the court if he was found to have been involved in any criminal activity, but this has not happened.

“It has been four days since he went missing but he has not been brought before the court yet,” he added, while urging the court to direct the police to produce the missing person in court.
