PESHAWAR: The main gate of the house of an official of Afghan Commissionerate was damaged after a low intensity bomb blew up on Jamaluddin Afghani Road in University Town, Peshawar, on Monday night.

Unknown people had planted a small home-made device with 400 grammes of explosive outside the residence of Haji Meraj Khan, the first secretary of the Afghan Commissionerate. The explosives detonated with a loud bang.

The explosion damaged the gate of Khan's house and created panic among the locals.

Police soon reached the area and surrounded the locality. Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was summoned to inspect the site. They confirmed that the blast was caused by an explosive device.

“We have been told that the man works in the Afghan Commissionerate and his house was the target,” said an official of the local police station. He added that the device had been concealed in a plastic bag and had been left outside the house.

No loss of life was reported in the incident.
