Judge who escaped assassination attempt elevated to Chief Justice of SHC

Justice Maqbool replaces Justice Musheer Alam, who has been elevated to the Supreme Court.

ISLAMABAD: Having survived an assassination attempt, which saw nine people being killed in June, Justice Maqbool Baqar of the Sindh High Court has been elevated as the Chief Justice of the same court.

In a notification from the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP), which oversees the judiciary and announces appointments, announced the approval of Justice Baqar’s elevation.

Justice Baqar will replace the incumbent SHC Chief Justice Musheer Alam who has inturn been elevated to the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

The decision was announced during a meeting of the Judicial Commission held under the chair of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry at the Supreme Court Islamabad Registry on Monday.

The meeting also approved the regularisation of six Additional Judges of Lahore High Court. Tge confirmed judges include; Justice Abdul Sami Khan, Justice Ibaad Ul Rehman Lodhi, Justice Shujat Ali Khan, Justice Ayesha A Malik, Justice Shahid Waheed and Justice Ali Baqir Najfi.
