KARACHI:
As the clamour for military action in violence riddled megalopolis of Karachi intensifies, the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) has opposed the proposal of army intervention as an attempt to curb worsening law and order situation, on Saturday, reported Radio Pakistan.

But their political opponents, the Awami National Party backed calls for military intervention and deweaponisation.

Talking to newsmen in Karachi on Saturday‚ PML-F leader Saddaruddin Shah Rashdi said this would be harmful for democracy in the province.

He said PML-F would rather go for a targeted operation against criminals in Karachi, instead of bringing the army into the city.

ANP say yes to military intervention

Awami National Party (ANP) leader Asfandyar Wali Khan announced that his party supported military intervention in Karachi, while speaking at a press conference in his home Wali Bagh, Charsadda.

Khan said he did not support an army operation in Karachi, but he did favour army intervention because de-weaponising the city without help from the soldiers would be difficult.

He said that neither did all ethnic Pukhtoons of Karachi belong to ANP nor did all Muhajir favour the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), and his party did not support anyone involved in militant activity in the metropolis.
