Railways had reduced fares by up to 60 per cent on several sections and trains which it claims has produced a positive result and the income of the department.

After reduction in fare 2.92 billion is a big achievement and i think the man like Khawaja Saad Rafiq done good job for Pakistan Railway and for the people of Pakistan. Salam Khawaja sb.

China runs on the same rule of reducing cost and producing more so there is no rocket science involved in this. However the news headline says that railway "claims" this. So if that is really true they must make public the official stats.

These figures indicate the revenue from ticket sales and comparison with the same period last year. It does not indicate that it has made any profit. If the running costs in the same period amount to 4 billion rupees, then it is a loss.
I think the true picture will only emerge after a whole year has passed. That is because:

This government has special feeling for the road between Lahore and Rawalpindi, won't comment more. Anyways, higher authorities of PR are advised, rather requested, to develop other routes as well throughout the country. Further, City Circular Railway in Karachi would be a great gift to people to Karachi in order to save their time from traffic jams, public transport woes etc.
Saad Rafique is a neutral personality and he has no link with transport as compared to last one Mr.Biloooor who destructed the Railways so i think in future it can prove a destructive personality for the opposition and off course we should not care of all these things we need the reform railways who will do this not matter.

Slowly and gradually, I am loosing faith in Pakistani English media because they are too quick to report half baked news and later they don't show any decency to apologize. English media is as sensational as Urdu media. for instance PTA sms/chat story. Ok, I admit it was due to PTA mis-communication but still media is somehow responsible. Malik Raiz's 45 Billion USD investment over 5 year was another sad story. Frequently, I have read comments and I have felt the same that many news reports are inappropriately titled. Almost 3 billion in less than 2 month is unreal. This is an even bigger lie compared to Naya Pakistan.
It's entirely possible to reduce prices and increase absolute revenue since more people buy your services.
@SAL Decrease profit margin per ticket, sell more tickets, earn more net profit. Really not that hard to grasp, is it?

I don't buy it. At discounted tickets how can it make profit even tough they ran special trains during Ramzaan. The income really comes from FREIGHT (Goods) trains which are sitting almost idle. Make them move that is where the Profit is.
