Crackdown: 93 suspects, 42 ‘illegal immigrants’ held in multiple raids

In a fresh crackdown against criminals, Karachi police arrested 135 suspects, including 42 alleged illegal immigrants, during 106 raids conducted in different parts of the city on Friday.
The officials also recovered 22 illicit weapons from their possession, according to a spokesperson for Sindh police.
Seven illegal immigrants from Afghanistan were apprehended during a police raid in Civil Lines. Police officials said the accused were living in Karachi without any legal documents. FIRs were registered against them under the Foreign Act, while further investigation is underway.
A special joint-team was constituted at zonal and range levels by Karachi’s additional IG of police to launch a crackdown against illegal immigrants living in the city without any work permit or valid documentation. Officers of the Federal Investigation Agency, Special Branch and police are the members of the team. They have been asked to submit daily reports on the progress made.
Separately, two alleged criminals were arrested during a police encounter near Guru Mandir in Jamshed Quarters police limits. Three suspects, however, managed to escape under the cover of firing. Three ambulances of the Edhi foundation were also damaged after bullets hit them during the shootout. The police claims to have recovered weapons from their possession and have registered a case against them.
In another incident, at least nine alleged gamblers were apprehended during a police raid at a gambling den in Jhat Pat Market in Lyari. Police officials also seized narcotics from them.
