Commenting on the ongoing violence in the city, Altaf said the Sindh government has completely failed to protect the residents of Karachi from criminal elements.
He added that the people of Karachi, particularly the traders, are hoping to be rescued by the armed forces as the police and Rangers have failed to do their job.
Violence in Karachi is on the rise again after a brief respite, with 12 people being killed in the city on August 25 including the Ahle Sunnat Waljamaat spokesperson.
A recent fact-finding report by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) claimed that the paramilitary force present in the city was an agent of fear, instead of an agent of security.
In its report, the human rights organisation took up 11 recent cases of abduction, extra-judicial killings and torture allegedly by the Rangers and observed that the Rangers had abused their power and not disclosed charges against abducted persons.

Just army coming in wont solve the structural issues of Karachi. The army should come in snd have LG polls onducted under the musharraf era LG law which is acceptable to the people of Karachi. Karachi needs to be freed from the yoke of the corrupt, rural yokels who are only interested in corruption and dont have ny competency to run n urbsn area esp o he size of Karachi.
@Ali Tanoli: cause then mqm was not on the recieving side init>>>>>
@mrs ahmed: so the 50% goes to the welfare of altaf bhai u having a laugh arent u???
@mrs ahmed: did u have the mendate when election held with army's present inside and out side of the poling stations????
@Mishrab: I agree with your statement that no one is safe and I also emphasize that Altaf has ruined Karachi.
@ mamu & dont delet comments This is the country where ex-PM, GHQ, Army Cantonments, Airforce Base etc are not safe. Very childish demand guys.
So who's gonna take control of Altaf hussain?
@asim: "So its admission that MQM governor who is longest ever and has seen 07 PM in last 13 years has failed." I agree with you but the point is MQM governor has been working with the last army dictator and all other rulers. They want army to take over with their man remaining as governor with dictatorial powers. They are not happy with a governor who only has constitutional powers. Governor rule would give them full powers under army which they can never win via elections. It has been few months that MQM is not part of govt (only governor) and the party without power would not last long. The point to ponder is no matter who rules Sindh or Pakistan this governor remains put. NS and Mush were poles apart yet both have no problem with MQM governor. PPP and PML-N differed on every caretaker appointment but the governor stayed put. Do you see the trend?
What is on next on the list; facial depigmentation or blonde hair transplant? Both are need of the hour!
@Zulfiqar: http://tribune.com.pk/story/223402/mqm-anp-call-for-army-deployment-in-karachi/
Why now why not army called in 2008 to 2011 when karachi was in dire crisis
All ordinary people of Pakistan think that Karachi is administered by MQM. I, as a citizen of Karachi, want to abnegate this myth and enlighten you all that Karachi along with Sindh is controlled by PPP. And all ill events are conducted due to the ineptness of PPP ruling fuedals!! That is why I support the idea of a separate administration for Karachi so that MQM can show its efficiency through total administrative control.
why a citizen of United Kingdom is trying to derail democracy in pakistan? united kingdom and its citizens stands for democracy all around the world.well I think :)
@Karachitte: not ruling party , and not administratorof karachi , yes have more than 85% mendate of the people , which fully denied in governance. All karachiite want directly elected mayour , with wide power in administration including police , health , education and revenue collection , well this is the way all modern mega cities are goverened all over the world , in london , newyork , in paris tehran , istanbul , list goes on .
@Mohammad: very true , MQM should have shown visible and vocal support ,Musharaf deserved after all he did for karachi , i am sure after surpassing huge obstacle
@Hafiz. Khan: Karachi contributes 65% of the country's GDP!!! Please verify and substantiate you claim. karachi's contribution was huge way back in the 70s and 60s. But now it is not more than 35%!!!!!
So its admission that MQM governor who is longest ever and has seen 07 PM in last 13 years has failed.
Thankyou Altaf Hussain for your unsolicited advice but Army belongs in the barracks not in cities..
Once again, "crying over the milk they spilt themselves"
People blamed MQM for not welcoming army control in Karachi and now they will blame MQM for welcoming army.
Because MQM is not a part of Govt this time, :) lol
@Karachitte: but Karachi is a part of Sindh ruled by PPP
Army should take over all of Pakistan, so sick of the charade of democracy.
@ Mohammad: you are correct, MQM betrayed Pervez Musharraf. In fact during last elections this was one of other reasons many Urdu speaking voters turned angry against MQM and voted to PTI. Karachiites want to see Mustafa Kamal on top of the leadership who is sincere, hard worker but has been pushed back.
Yay. I was always looking forward for such great news. :)
@Karachitte: It is a mandate with undisputed heavy mandate which does not get translated into political, financial or administrative mandate, how can MQM be deemed the ruling party with no authority
Cold calculated callousness against urban Sindh will not go unchallenged. People of Karachi are together to march forward to protect their right in Karachi. its time to sincerely engage to solve matters before it snowballs into something irreversible
@Karachitte: Ruling party!!?? Sind government feudals have all the Karachi departments under them where they are looting Karachi
First sensible thing coming out of this guy.
Why the handing over demand was not made when you were in government from past 20 or more years???
MQM is the ruling party in Karachi. Why blame the Sindh government?
I fully agree .--"administration of Karachi to the Pakistan Army" Karachi contributes over 65% of country's GDP and is economic hub.Business are leaving Karachi due to very bad law and order situation
MQM, you won't have a sincere leader like Musharraf backing Mustafa Kamal to turn Karachi into one of the most constructed and developed and PEACEFUL city of Pakistan. You betrayed Musharraf, along with many, don't expect from PMLN that they will remain same for Lahore and Karachi.
Your suffering is the punishment of leaving Musharraf.. you could have arranged a protest for the ill-treatment of Musharraf by courts, just thinking that he has supported you and people of Karachi through out the years of government.
People of Sindh should not forget the development and peace Musharraf provided them...!
it is not only Altaf Hussain, its all of Pakistanis who want army to take over Pakistan!
