Imran was speaking at a rally in Kalam.
The PTI chief – who arrived in the area today - was briefed about the restoration of two dysfunctional power stations.
The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government had handed over the power stations - which were closed down in the past - to the non-governmental organisation (NGO) Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP).
Imran, who was flanked by K-P Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak and other party members, said the PTI-led government in the province is introducing laws that will bring big changes in the official setup.
Stating that the laws will give more power to the people, the PTI chief said united and empowered people can change the fate of the country.
“Our aim is to give local people the authority and control over the resources,” Imran said, adding that decisions for an area should be taken by the elected leaders of the place rather than from "distant leadership in Peshawar."

I thought our former president would be visiting Pakistan. That's impression I got when I read the headline. If APJ Abdul Kalam did go. That could really be inspirational, wouldn't it brothers?
@NewYorker: Jailbreaks=thriving Interesting!
Great Ik, we know u can do it.dont worry we have given corrupt pml-n and ppp a lot of time, take your time.if u need money we pti voter will give u.do max for the poor and needy.
Imran Khan is the man of the hour! He does what he says and says what he does. May god bless him with long life, strength and endurance to keep up the great work for our countries people. The change he makes in KPK will be role model for other provinces for times to come. If only we could get IK in our Premier position of PM, the road to success would have been much quicker..
@What?: MQM and Musharraf had the authority to implement this idea, why didn’t they do it? Hey man Wait ! were you asleep during 2003-2008 ? Mustafa Kamal set the bench mark against which all succeeding local government administrators are going to be judged. Your comment shows how pathetically ignorant are PTIans of the realities prevalent in the country. Take a break and be realistic.
To all those claiming this was Musharraf's or MQM's idea that has been stolen by PTI. MQM and Musharraf had the authority to implement this idea, why didn't they do it?
@Aysha M LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL You just can't accept the fact that PTI is actually thriving in KPK, cant you? You just have to live in your close-minded little box? Well, good luck.
@Aysha M: what do u mean by "MQM's Structure"??.. MQM never had such structure ... PTI announced its structure last year april 2012.. here is the link...
http://www.ptitigers.com/pti-local-government-policy/
@Syedpk: And what it has done for Empowering ppl?... Nothing!!.. tell me one step... waiting.. :)
@Syedpk: You are so right, But you see there is a problem MQM is always first to produce a document of structure and framework for law and policy making. These include 1. Deweaponization bill 2. Land Reform bill 3. Shadow Budget 4. National Counter Terrorism policy 5. Local Government Bill
In the presence of well written and comprehensive pieces of work, it is difficult not to rip them off and claim it as their own
They can use MQM's policy and vision, it is fine because it is in the interest of the people. Thank you MQM for leading the nation to appropriate and effective law making, hope they are debated over and subsequently adopted
empowering the people..by banning women to vote
We have faith in IK and PTI rest of all PML-N and PPP ect we seen in last 30 years that is state of affairis of country because of Sharif and Bhutoo policies in PAk.
Has IK empowered his handpicked CM of KPK to tie even his shoelaces without looking in the direction of Banigala?
@abdullah: Yes, we should, if we want to talk about things that matter.
"Empowering people" Now where have i heard that before :P
hint hint : MQM come up with your own slogan khan sahab,
Then please do it in KP other wise what will be the results you saw in NA 1 Peshawar .
@Mishrab: I dont think so musharrafs LG devolved power to villages...
“Our aim is to give local people the authority and control over the resources,” Imran said, adding that decisions for an area should be taken by the elected leaders of the place rather than from “distant leadership in Peshawar.”
Hypocritical of Imran Khan. When it comes to SIndh, PTI, lends its support to local government laws in Sindh that are totally opposite to locals getting authority, with all control going to an aloof provincial government.
@PTI: Yes where are PTI bashers. See our great leader has "delivered" and tomorrow you will see CHANGE and everyone in KPK will be empowered by tomorrow.
promises, promises from the master of u turn....just hollow words till they are implemented...
I wish this will not be another of his long list of promises. At least he has started talking something other than his ego (rigging).
Somebody must alert IK that he is supporting MQM's structure for local body government, he might like to review his stance
No original idea ! It was Musharraf, a dictator, who in reality decentralized power to lowest level. MQM's stand on local government is a true democratic struggle which is being opposed by pro status quo forces. There is no one who is supporting MQM on this issue, even PTI with so called "change" is playing hypocrite by not opposing LG bill in Sindh assembly. This opposition of empowered LG in Sindh will continue till every one is assured that MQM is no more a real political force in urban sindh.Shame ! mere in MQM opposition millions of people in sindh have been kept deprived of the system they badly deserve. Really disgusting.
Excellent
KP govt can build a base for Naya-Pakistan if it abolishes colonial era divisions, districts and tehsils, and replace them with municipal govts. Village council is a good idea but should name it as 'village municipal govt'. All cities should become municipal govts. Provincial funds should go directly to the mayors and councils of these Municipal governments whether they are in cities or in rural areas. Imran Khan has lived abroad and knows that that is what is in practice in Western countries. All Municipal govts should have their own local administration and police, both independent of provincial control. That is real empowerment.
So finally IK speaking the language of MQM as MQM has been empowering middle class and common people since its origin.
I am getting fed up of Rhetoric of the oxford graduate, can we see any thing done or at least any effort on ground?
Make it happen soon
here we r moving towards "Naya KPK" Haters can rest in peace!
Proud voter of PTI !
ET can we have a comparison of local govt law of four states
This was idea of Gen. Pervaiz. In fact PTI is the party that has taken diffrent views from exisiting parties. It has not bring any new idea. Lets see if they can do something. Yet they have to get rid of neopotisim.
@sarfraz
Would you care to compare the proposed KP local government act to the other two provinces. It took PML(N) five terms in Punjab and PPP 6 terms in Sindh to pass the law which PTI is going to enact in few months. Now tell me who is behind?
@sarfraz: Law already drafted. will be presented in next session of assembly.
@sarfraz: We waited and waited for years for a good system....we can wait for few more months...never mind :)
two provinces passed the law... and KPK is still behind local govt ordinance...
Positive Move !!
Devolution of power to village level and holding of elections on party basis proves that PTI stands by ita manifesto!! More power to it!! :)
Proud of you, my leader.
