Dangerous Drains: Case sought against WASA

An additional district and sessions judge on Friday sought comments from the Ghaziabad SHO by August 27 in a petition seeking the registration of a case against a Water and Sanitation Agency sub-divisional officer for not repairing a blocked drain that has been blamed for a pedestrian fracturing his foot.
Petitioner Abdul Hameed submitted that a sewer in his area of residence, Riazpura of Ghaziabad, had been blocked for a long time and had pooled in the street.
He said residents of the area had submitted an application on the matter to the Wasa SDO on August 19.
“My son recently fell into a manhole and fractured his left foot,” Hameed said, “I approached the SHO concerned but he did not entertain my request for registering a complaint.”
He prayed the court to direct the SHO to register a case against the SDO for negligence.
