One arrested, case against six for jubilation firing

Despite a ban by ECP on display of arms and firing, supporters of several winning candidates did that.

Madina Town police registered a case against six people on Friday on the charge of displaying arms and firing to celebrate the victory of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz candidate Mian Abdul Mannan in front of his residence on Thursday night.


Mannan won from NA-83 (Faisalabad-IX).


His supporters had gathered in front of his dera in Officers’ Colony in Madina Town as by-elections results started coming in.

Despite a ban by the Election Commission of Pakistan on display of arms and firing, supporters of several winning candidates were reported to have done that.

Madina Town police arrived and arrested one of the men, identified as Muhammad Boota.

A case has been registered against six people, including Boota, under Sections 337(H)2 (a negligent act that puts lives in danger), 148 (armed), 149 (unlawful assembly) and 188 (defiance of public order) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on the complaint of a sub inspector.
