As many as 184 out of the 197 children enrolled at the Bhagtanwala Government High School in Gujranwala district failed their ninth grade Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education examinations held under the Gujranwala Board, an Education Department official told The Express Tribune on the condition of anonymity.
Parents said government schools received hundreds of thousands of rupees funds besides other allowances. They said district education officers claimed to regularly monitor the attendance of teachers and students. They said teachers were only concerned about being paid.
They regretted that teachers did not give enough attention to their students.
The pass percentage was also poor at several other schools in the district, including Laksian High School, where 174 of the 220 students failed; Mateela High School, where 71 out of 84 students failed; Dodah High School where 67 of 103 failed, and Chak 71-South High School where 47 of 58 failed.
