FAISALABAD:

Three robbers in police uniforms on Wednesday took away Rs850,000 from Dijkot Road Branch of United Bank Limited. They also beat up one of the security guards. He was later taken to a nearby hospital and discharged a few hours later.

Khalid Mehmood, a witness, told the media that “three policemen came in a car [Toyota Corolla] and entered the bank.”
He said the security guard at the bank did not stop them, “instead, he saluted them.”

Mehmood said the robbers took out their guns once they were inside the bank.

“They held the bank staff and customers at gunpoint and ordered the cashier to put the money in a bag,” he added, “the bank staff did not resist and no one pressed the alarm button either.”

One of them beat up a guard and threatened to shoot him if he moved. Mehmood said no one moved after that.

He said a police team arrived 20 minutes after the robbers had escaped.

“Instead of going after the robbers, they started questioning people present at the scene.”
Talking to The Express Tribune, Factory Area Station House Officer Khalid Kalyar said that the robbers had taken away Rs850,000 from the bank. He said a police team had been constituted to arrest the robbers.
