Islamabad standoff: Co-accused sent on one-day transit remand by ATC judge

Kanwal has been directed to appear before the court on Monday for a proper proceeding.

ISLAMABAD:
The wife of the gunman Muhammad Sikandar, involved in the five-hour standoff with the police on Jinnah Avenue on Thursday, was presented before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Sunday, Express News reported.

Since ATC courts are closed on Sundays, hence the duty judge headed a brief hearing after which Kanwal was sent to one-day transit remand by the duty judge and was directed to appear before the court on Monday for a proper proceeding.

She was booked for act of terrorism for helping her husband in engaging law enforcement agencies in a stand-off that lasted for several hours on the federal capital


After the hearing, the co-accused was taken to the Police Line safe house.

Kanwal was injured by a misfired bullet from Sikandar’s gun during the final showdown and was taken to PIMS Hospital along with her husband.

She was discharged on Friday and was escorted by the police to the Police Lines safe house.
