Unannounced loadshedding hampered trade in Sukkur and other areas of interior Sindh on Wednesday as the electricity shortfall in the region rose to 600 megawatts.

Around 1500 megawatts of electricity are required to power the entire region.

The long hours of outages severely affected small businesses and traders. A Southern Electric Power Company Limited spokesman informed that six hours of load shedding is being carried out in cities while ten hours in rural areas.

Earlier it was reported that the government plans to introduce increased electricity tariffs from next month.

Gas loadshedding in Punjab

Meanwhile gas loadshedding for factories and CNG Stations in Punjab was also increased on Wednesday. The loadshedding that was caused by an acute shortage of gas from major fields in the province will continue till November.

Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGP) informed that supply of gas from Dakhni, Qadirpur and Zamzama gas fields has not been restored as yet.

The brunt of this shortage is being faced by Punjab. In the textile hub of Faisalabad, 400 textile units and over 350 CNG Stations were closed throughout the day.

Textile organisations claimed that investors are facing a loss of Rs100 million for each day the gas supply remains closed.
