ATC: Two men sentenced to life in abduction case

KARACHI: Two kidnappers were handed life sentences on Friday in a kidnapping for ransom case by an anti-terrorism court (ATC).

Rana Khalid and Ghaffar Ansari were found guilty of abducting a man, Farhan, and taking a ransom of Rs250,000 for his release in October 2009. Their third accomplice, Moin Mirza, was acquitted of the charges for want of evidence.

According to the prosecution, the accused had kidnapped Farhan from Korangi Industrial Area on October 26, 2009, and released him after a week. During the case proceedings, Farhan had identified both the men. A case, No.919/09, under section 365-A and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code read with section seven of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997, was registered on the complaint of Nasir Mehmood.

Anandram Sairani of the ATC-IV, pronounced the verdict and remanded back the accused to jail authorities to serve the sentence.
