Green-and-white flags hoisted across province

Sindh governor and CM pay homage to Quaid-e-Azam.

SUKKUR/ KARACHI: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah visited the mausoleum of the father of the nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, to pay homage to the great leader on 67th Independence Day of Pakistan on Wednesday. They hoisted the national flag, offered fateha and laid floral wreaths at Mazar-e-Quaid. In their impressions in the visitors’ book, they paid glowing tribute to Quaid-e-Azam. Members of the Sindh cabinet, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Dr Sikander Mandhro, Jam Khan Shoro and Jam Mehtab Dahar were also present on the occasion.

MQM holds ceremony

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) celebrated August 14 in style by organising a musical night at its Jinnah ground.  Singers Hasan Jahangeer, Naeem Abbas Rufi and others entertained the audience which included MQM leaders and activists, as comedian Umer Sharif hosted the show. On the occasion, jubilant men, women and children sang the national anthem as fireworks lit up the sky.

School celebrations

Students and teachers celebrated Independence Day at the Shah Abdul Latif University (Salu), Khairpur, with national spirit, fervour and enthusiasm. Salu Khairpur’s vice-chancellor Professor Dr Parveen Shah hoisted the national flag to the rhythm of the national anthem.

Dr Shah said: “We have to eradicate militancy and extremism from the country.” She stressed the need to value freedom. The motto of our Quaid was faith, unity and discipline - which is a source of inspiration for the nation. She said that education is an agent of change, hence, everyone must make efforts for the promotion of education.

The occasion was also marked at Shikarpur Campus of Shah Abdul Latif University, where Shikarpur campus director Professor Dr Lutfullah Mangi hoisted the national flag.

The director said that we must strive for the stability of Pakistan and divert our energies towards the development of the country. Dr Mangi added that education could eliminate illiteracy, extremism and intolerance from the country.

The Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) organised different activities to commemorate the day. DUHS vice-chancellor Prof Masood Hameed Khan, pro vice-chancellor Prof Umer Farooq, Dow Medical College principal Prof Junaid Ashraf and other senior faculty members participated in the event.
