SIALKOT:

A minor drowned in the flooded Bhed here on Tuesday.

Witnessed said the boy, identified as Arsalan, was standing close to the bank when he was taken away by a high current in Bhed. Rescue 1122 officials are still looking for the body.

Flood water entered a number of houses. Residents of several localities said they had been draining it out on self-help basis.

Torrential monsoon rains have played havoc with the area by flooding the entire city and causing widespread damage.

The low lying areas in Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur tehsils have been inundated. Electricity and communication systems have also been affected.

Low flood in River Chenab

River Chenab was in low level flood on Tuesday with flow recorded at 122,226 cusecs at Head Marala.

District Officer (Coordination) Malik Abid Hussain Awan said that the situation at Head Marala was under control. He said the departments concerned had already been put on high alert and they were monitoring the flood situation round the clock.

He said water level was rising in the Aik river with a 6,100 cusecs water flow at Oora near Sialkot. Flooding in AiK in the last 10 days has affected Sialkot, Daska and Sambrial tehsils. Awan feared the fresh spell of heavy rains in the region would raise water levels.
