Consumer court: Farmer sues seed seller for Rs1.2m

A consumer court has fixed September 11 for initial arguments on a suit seeking damages of Rs1.2 million from the proprietor of Ittehad Spray Centre for allegedly selling a farmer substandard maize seed. Petitioner Muhammad Luqman submitted that on February 27, he bought eight bags of seed for the cultivation of eight acres in a Chunian village in Kasur district. He said the respondent assured him that the seed would give him a good crop, but his crop never grew.
He said he had complained to the Kasur deputy district agriculture officer, whose field assistant visited the land and confirmed that the crop did not grow because the seeds were defective. He asked the court to direct the respondent to pay him Rs1.2 million.
