ISLAMABAD:

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday took notice of postings and transfers made in Sindh before by-elections in spite of a ban. The electoral body sought a reply from Sindh chief secretary in this regard.

Once it released the election schedule, the ECP slapped a ban on transfers and postings in the relevant constituencies across the country. The commission took notice of the matter on a complaint filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F).

The ECP notification stated that a ban had also been imposed on the president, prime minister, chief ministers, governors, ministers and advisers from campaigning in the by-elections. “Legal action will be taken against all violators,” the ECP stated.

In February, the ECP had placed a ban on recruitments in government functionaries and on announcement of development schemes. The commission had maintained that announcement of new jobs and development schemes just before elections were tantamount to pre-poll rigging.
