Who says wine does not flow in the month of Ramazan? Police arrested two bootleggers, Nooruddin and Jahangir Abbas, from the Shahzad Town area on Sunday and took 540 bottles of wine in their possession.


It was one of the largest consignments of alcohol recovered from the federal capital in 2013, according to the police. The raid was conducted by the Criminal Investigation Agency branch of Islamabad police.

Police also arrested 59 suspects during search operations conducted in different areas of the city on Sunday, a police spokesman said.

Nineteen beggars were also apprehended during these operations. The police impounded 73 motorcycles and six cars during a general hold-up. The spokesman said police are taking strict measures against vehicles being driven without documents, professional beggars and criminal elements in the lead up to Eid.

Police also removed black tinted glass from the windows of 16 vehicles on Sunday.
