GUJRANWALA: The maimed body of a 12-year-old girl kidnapped 19 days ago was found in a field on Sunday.

Ferozwala police have arrested a neighbour and his friend for kidnap, rape and murder. They said the suspects have confessed to the crime.

Police said Jhangi resident Abdul Ghafoor’s daughter had worked at a doctor’s house as a maid. She had gone missing on her way back home.

They said her mother, Nusrat Bibi, had then filed a complaint against her employer, who, they said, was found innocent in an investigation.

Police said they had learnt that one of the girl’s neighbours, Muhammad Yaqoob, and his friend, Yasir Nawaz, had picked her up on the day she was last seen. They said some neighbours had seen them take her towards the nearby field.

They had then raped her and dumped her body in the field.

Police said they had been looking for the girl. Her maimed body was recovered from the field on Sunday.

The suspects told police that they had tried to cut her body into pieces to bury them apart.

Station House Officer Mirza Zaman said the girl’s mother had apparently helped Yaqoob’s daughter get married without the consent of her parents.

They quoted Yaqoob as saying that he had wanted revenge for this.

Nusrat Bibi denied that she had helped Yaqoob’s daughter get marry.
