ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday ordered that the man accused of murdering a Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) prosecutor undergo a medical exam.

IHC Justice Muhammad Anwar Khan Kasi ordered that Abdullah Umar, the alleged murderer of FIA Prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar undergo a check-up after a petition seeking it was filed by his father, Yasin Khalid.

Chaudhry was killed near G-9 Markaz by two men in a car bearing the licence plate GAL-1171on his way to an Anti Terrorist Court to appear in the Benazir Bhutto murder case. Later, Umar, a student at International Islamic University Islamabad, was arrested by the Islamabad police. The petitioner’s counsel, Advocate Abdur Rahim, informed the court that on May 3, 2013, two unknown gunmen opened fire at his client — leaving him paralysed — and snatched his car. He added that an FIR relating to the incident was also filed with the Ratta Amral police.

Rahim further argued that his client was shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims). However, despite his unstable condition, the police transferred him to Adiala Jail after two weeks and that the police previously failed to honour the court’s orders to take his client for medical checkups.

“Umar’s treatment can be done at Pims, where he was admitted” he added.

Justice Kasi, dissatisfied with the behaviour of the police, directed them to produce Abdullah’s medical report before the court on July 31.
