Rs200m security force set up to protect VVIPs

KARACHI: A new security force has been established in Karachi to offer protection to politicians, bureaucrats and important government officials.

The Sindh police officials working for this “VVIP Security Unit” will be offered the same salaries and perks as the officials working for the Islamabad police, it was stated in a notification issued by the police department.

An annual sum of Rs216,848,100 has been allocated to pay just the salaries of the police personnel working for this security force, which was set up on the directives of the provincial government. The officials will also be entitled to perks such as a car, fuel allowance, ammunition and uniforms.

A total of 1,435 personnel have been enlisted in this force, which includes an SP, 3 DSPs, 15 Inspectors, 76 Sub Inspectors, 120 ASIs, 500 Head Constables and 720 Police Constables.

According to the official notice, “The difference in salary between the personnel of the Islamabad police and the Sindh police may be granted to the personnel of the VVIP Security Unit, SSP, Karachi, as VVIP Security Duty Allowance.”

One the one hand government says that it lacks police personnel to maintain the law and order situation on the other whatever forces we have are being guarded at the doors of bigshots. Stange'
