Sialkot case changing direction, says family

Family of the two lynched brothers claim the direction of the case is being changed to save accused police officials.

SIALKOT: The grieved family of the two lynched brothers Hafiz Mughees and Muneeb Butt has expressed dissatisfaction over the police inquiry report produced before the Supreme Court of Pakistan by the joint investigating team comprising of the senior police officials.

Talking to the newsmen here, lynched brothers' uncle Muhammad Zarar Butt alleged that the police was trying to change the direction of lynching tragedy for saving the accused police officials nominated in this case.

"We totally differ from the said police investigation report", he added.

The grieved family urged the Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary to ensure early revision on this police investigation report for providing the early and speedy justice to the grieved family. "Only CJP could provide justice to us", he added.

In earlier reports, the family stated that they had been facing life threats by some unknown accused who were allegedly trying to prevent them from pursuing the case further.

Till now, the Supreme Court has disposed of the suo moto hearing of the Sialkot lynching case, which has now been passed on to a trial court.

My concern is the brutal action of killing them by the mob in conivance and presence of the local police. The Police officials know how to make an innocent a guilty and vice versa. And they are doing in this case.

The more they let the buttar brutes speak the worse gets their image. They're completetly ignorant!! They've even gone to the extreme of saying the boys had a step mother. If this is how the direction is changing then its going to make you LOL!!! Suddenly one of the culprits' (Shafiq Fauji) wife jumps out of nowhere and claims that Mughees robbed her and husband, and also disgraced her by pulling the money out from her "shirt"... Where had she been all along why has it suddenly occurred to her that she was one of their victims too? There are people in that village who still have the view that they lynching was justified. Pathetic!! Another person claims to have seen the video and footage on the morning of Aug 15, the same day as they were killed, and also to have rushed on the spot to see the dead bodies for real. Everyone knows that the footage was aired on 19th, not 15th. Thats why they say "jhoot k paaon nahi hotay"!

But at least it is good these martyred boys gifted their life by making HIGH PLACE in all of us hearts. To-day many sisters love them more than their own brothers. So it prove to be First RainDrop and we should struggle to keep this passion alive. General Masses of Pakistan always come forward at every major crisis that ever hit Pakistan. So to keep this mission ALIVE we should spare one or two minutes until a Fair Resolution of said case. Many of you couldn’t even sleep what happened to them. Remember in battle between good and bad, evil always try to look attractive and "good " remain simple and sometime boring. THIS is a deception point. So we should be patient and determined. otherwise we may be called for explanation at day of Judgement and we obviously had no answer.

Dont think your voice will go unheard because that's what keeps most of us from reacting. Please write to human rights commission, write to CJP, write to amnesty, do all you can. Lets not just predict he's going to walk scot free.. If there's evidence of his implication in the incident he WILL be punished, and if there's not, then take it for Allah's will and let Him serve justice, which will never be denied.

And what is the point is punishing the remaining 17 criminals if the main culprit is set free.....In my opinion 90% of the blame for this tragic incident should be placed on the shoulders of Waqar Ahmed Chohan.....We do not need a judicial system which is biased and unfair and which is all set to giving protection to the high-ups involved....

SA | 14 years ago | Reply Jadoon, above I have explained the role of Supreme Court in suo motu criminal cases. Go through it. Its not exactly playing with the sentiments. The verdict will be given by anti-terrorist court and Supreme Court will review it. As for chohan, in the FIR he's been nominated in an offence which is bailable. Currently he's enjoying the status of "innocent until proven guilty". Moreover he was not among those nominated by the plaintiff in FIR. Above all. the ugliest aspect is that he is rpo's rawalpindi's son in law. He is influtential and he is sure to get away with this. Thanks to our corrupt and rotten systems when our pathetice peoples party's ignorant fools can embarras themselves by putting not just foot but the entire leg in their mouth! Awan woman has even gone to the extreme of calling the apprehended criminals as "innocent injured souls"... What do you expect?? We have to get up and voice our concers otherwise its our turn next..

Sarmad Jadoon | 14 years ago | Reply I dont know why the hell has the court granted a bail to DPO Waqar Chohan who was primarily responsible for allowing this heinous crime to happen....I dont understand why the hell is the Supreme Court playing around with the sentiments of the masses....Justice delayed is justice denied...It has been nearly 2 months yet Supreme Court has failed to give its verdict....They are certainly trying to change the case to protect the high ups involved including former DPO Waqar Chohan

I hope I dont sound cynical for other religions, but do you mind sharing which LORD you will be worshipping henceforth? Can you explain the meaning of “tolerant eye” when you yourself are incapable of taking nature’s or fate’s offering and instead of rectifying the problem at your end you denounce religion, and indirectly Allah, whom we worship?? Everyone appreciates your concern over what has been happening lately in pakistan, everyone would acknowledge your efforts that you listed above, to fight injustice but how is it related to Islam???? Relate it to the societal violence and corruption but NOT to Islam. None of what you quoted above is taught by Islam or practiced by Muslims. But to our relief (at least for the moment), ATC have much speedier trials and they pronounce harsh sentence. Had the case been transferred to a ordinary criminal courts our grandchildren would hear the verdict, not us. Meanwhile, I appreciate your concern for the family. You can write to CJ and influential people about this matter. As for our courts I dont mean to sound impatient and the autopsy report, if not altered, shall reveal more, but you know our Pakistani courts sys the grand son still awaits justice for a case his grand father would have filed it takes years may be generations if every fact is there why not serve it right away

However I would like to clear one point to Shani and Jadoon, its been repeatedly said at various forums (though it was the media's responsibility to convey) that supreme court cannot continue to hear criminal cases; all suo motu cases ultimately have to be disposed off and are handed over to appropriate courts. SC keeps the cases under scrutiny and reviews the final decision. The disposal came at a crucial time though, on one hand the JIT declared them as murderers and on the other hand SC disposed the case off. The electronic media reported it in such a manner which gave out the impression that SC disposed the case due to the reason that they killed that guy having a criminal record.. So demanding CJ's resignation over this matter is way too early we have yet to see what the second autopsy suggests and the trial has yet to begin. Open court trials are said to be fair and liable to closer scrutiny by SC. So lets not lose hope for justice. BUT meanwhile we must continue our protests to show solidarity with the bereaved family and shouldnt let the issue die.

Sarmad Jadoon | 14 years ago | Reply I think the Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Chaudry should immediately tender his resignation for failing to provide justice to the bereaved family.....The whole nation knows what happened to the two innocent brothers...Even the faces of the accused can be seen very clearly in the video...The lynching continued for two hours....Even a butcher wont slaughter an animal in such a ruthless manner the way these two brothers were killed....The mob used iron rods,bricks and canes and tortured to them in the most horrific manner ever...Even after killing their bodies were not spared rather they were hung upside down and hit with canes too...Then iron rods were pierced into the eyes of the two brothers...The ropes with which they were hung were cut and their dead bodies fell on the trolley....Thereafter the dead bodies were paraded in the city by Sialkot police....The DPO Waqar Chohan who has recently been released on bail was the main culprit who not only stopped the agitated mob from taking the law in their hands but was rather an accomplice in the crime who encouraged the mob to murder the boys...In the video Waqar Chohan can be seen clearly giving a pat on the back of one of the culprits responsible for lynching...I therefore urge every Pakistani to come forward and raise his/her voice so that nothing like this incident could happen in future...Also all the human rights groups should come forward to play their role so that justice is done without any delay....Justice delayed is justice denied

Don't be ashamed of being Pakistani, I know emotions are high and what happened in Sialkot to the Butt brothers was cruel and abominable. But Pakistani is not to be blamed, instead we Pakistanis are to be blamed. Pakistan was perceived and made by Quaid-e-Azam, Allama Iqbal, etc for the Indian Muslims so that they can be spared Hindu domination and cruelty. Pakistan was supposed to be a shelter for Muslims, instead we have converted it into hell where nobody is safe from random killing, robbery and corruption. We should be ashamed of that Sialkot mob being Pakistani, but we shouldn't bash our country which has given us our identity.

Now getting back to the subject, I would urge all readers to do a bit more than just feeling sorry and blaming the government and judiciary. When someone approaches a Lawyer Does they partner Merit and truthfulness. Judge decide deliver on merit ? . Do you vote for right candidate and do you vote for a Muslim how is rightful and punctual of Namaz ?
