The two cantonment boards in Rawalpindi have started preparations related to local body elections, boards officials said on Thursday.


This will be the first local body elections after separating the two boards in Rawalpindi having 10 constituencies each. In the first phase, people will elect 10 members from each board called councillors.

In the second phase, the elected members will chose their vice president. According to the boards’ division, Saddar, Gawalmandi, Harley Street, Chungi22, Tench Bhatta, Azizabad, Mughalabad, People Colony, Kamalabad, Peshawar Road, Dhoke Gujran, Golra Mor, Chur Chowk, and Westridge will be part of Rawalpindi Cantt Board while Mareer Chowk, Dhoke Chiraghdin, Jhanda Chichi, Gulistan Colony, Chaklala, Scheme-III and Lalazar will be part of Chaklala Cantt Board. Both board’s administration is ready to hold elections after the announcement of a date by the Election Commission of Pakistan. As these elections cannot be run on a party basis, political parties are rehashing themselves under new names.
