HYDERABAD:

Irrigation Department engineers have been directed to revisit their flood fighting strategy, especially with reference to current flow of water in Indus River, to ensure that all the embankments passing from Matiari district are strong enough.

The direction came when Hyderabad Deputy Commissioner Matiari Fayyaz Hussain Abbasi was paying a surprise visit to the river embankment from Old Hala to New Saeed Abad on Thursday. Matiari advised the officials to conduct surveys, identify loopholes, and if any, report the problem before time so that it could be resolved.

The government invested a huge amount on the strengthening of embankments by raising their level above the flood level of 2010. He said that in addition to river floods, care must be taken about rain flood in the pacca/urban areas. Abbasi said that better arrangements to meet any eventuality of river or rain flood will protect the lives and properties of the people.
