SUKKUR:

Ratodero police foiled a kidnapping attempt by a junk dealer near Warah Shakh on Wednesday.

Seven-year-old Shumaila, daughter of Fareed Abro, was going to a grocery shop when Gulzar Jagirani, a resident of Jakhrani Muhalla, intoxicated the minor girl and put her into a sack. Jagirani was speeding away with the girl on a pushcart when residents grew suspicious and informed the police. The police sprang into action and arrested the man near Warah Shakh, eight kilometres away from Ratodero. The police found the girl in an unconscious condition from the sack.

The police said that Jagirani confessed to his crime and said that he was a habitual gambler and was under a huge debt. He further said that his friend, Imran Langah, often lent him money on interest for gambling. When he couldn’t repay his debt, Langah asked him to kidnap a minor girl for him to settle his debt, he added.

Meanwhile, a case was registered by Shumaila’s father against the two men.
