Banker’s murder: Police recommend releasing female suspect

Police informed the court that there was no evidence against M, who was added to the list for changing her statements.

KARACHI:

The investigators probing the murder case of a former banker, Faisal Nabi, have recommended the release of a female suspect, M*, for want of evidence.

On Tuesday, the police investigators informed the court that there was no evidence against M, who was added to the suspects’ list after she kept changing her statements. They requested the court declare her a witness. Faisal, 33, was shot dead on June 20 allegedly by award-winning filmmaker Mansoor Mujahid and his female friend, A*, in an apartment on Zamzama.

Investigating officer Muhammad Mobeen submitted a report in court under Section 169 (release of accused when evidence deficient) of the Criminal Procedure Code (Cr.P.C), stating that he found no solid evidence against M and the suspect may be released.

In the interim charge sheet submitted before the judicial magistrate in district south, Hatim Aziz Solangi, Mobeen sought the court’s permission to include M in the witness list so that her statement could be recorded.

Abdul Wahid Ansari, the district South public prosecutor said, however, that the investigations have not been concluded. “The interim charge sheet means investigation has not been completed and needs further probe.” The judge while adjourning the hearing issued notices to the respondents for today.
