KARACHI:

The physical custody remand for three policemen was extended till July 16 by a judicial magistrate Zeeshan Manzoor on Monday.

The policemen, Shakirullah, Muhammad Saeed and Munir Ayub, were arrested for their alleged involvement in the escape of three under-trial prisoners from the Anti-Terrorism Courts on July 11.

It is reported that the prisoners, Muhammad Zubair, Ammar Hafeez and Arsalan Shahnawaz, were transported to ATC from the Karachi Central Prison for their case hearing. After the court proceedings, the prisoners were brought back to the lock-up inside the ATC complex for their transportation to Karachi Central Prison. The prisoners, however, managed to unlock their handcuffs and remove the metal bars of a ventilation window in the lock-up’s toilet and escaped.
