The deaths en route to the trek to Lahoot, Lasbela district in Balochistan, from Sehwan continued on Saturday as four more pilgrims died of dehydration and asphyxia.
This route, which is 130 to 140 kilometres, has so far claimed seven lives since the three-day Urs celebrations ended in Sehwan.
Sehwan police has identified the pilgrims as Faqir Muhammad Babbar and Ghulam Muhammad Babbar, from Sanghar, Niaz Tunio from Larkana and Nabi Baksh Khokhar from Jamshoro. The police said that the deceased were travelling in separate foot caravans. They all reportedly died after consuming unclean water from a pond of stagnant water in Naig Sharif, which is 50 kilometres from Sehwan, in Jamshoro. The bodies were brought from the village to Sehwan in the vehicles of a gas exploration company.
Thousands of devotees set off for this journey in separate groups through the rugged Khirthar mountains to Lahoot Lamakan. The pilgrimage site, located in Lasbela district Balochistan, houses the shrine of Bilawal Shah Noorani.
