Tensions escalated when several Kutchi men and women tried to take the body of a deceased to the Sindh Chief Minister House. Besides Mauripur Road, several protests were also held in other parts of city by the Kutchi community.
Insiders have reason to believe that access to Mauripur Road, which heads directly to the port, is the reason why violence continues unabated. “Gangsters collected weapons after looting Nato containers in the past,” alleged Hussain Kutchi, a community leader.
The Kutchi community was reluctant to provide this easy access to Mauripur Road because they feared they will lose their areas, he added.
The Peoples Aman Committee (PAC) denies these allegations and blame a ‘third force’. “We own Lyari. How can we disturb our own neighbourhood?” said PAC leader Zafar Baloch.
Law enforcers say the situation would have stayed in control had political parties withdrawn their backing.

@Mekaal Shahriyar: You are right my mother's family was forced to make a second migration from Larkana due to the ethnic riots. @ Sagi: You are clearly lying and misrepresenting facts. The land was awarded to Punjabi settlers and retired faujis and Bureaucrats NOT TO THE MUHAJIRS. Care to give the statistics of properties you stole from the Muhajirs of the interior and fellow sindhi Hindus in the past 65 years. A sindhi friend of my mother lived in the Nazimabad during the 90's and she was never harmed and infact the local MQM boys assured them of protection but you wouldn't understand this as you would rather wallow in self pity and blame the Urdu speakers for all your faults like your friends the nationalists.FYI it's not the Urban populace who hates the sindhis but it is the sindhis who hate us to the core and are jealous of what we have achieved despite all the hurdles and discrimination. @E.T: Kindly allow me to respond to a hater. Also for the past two days I can't access your blog section. Kindly have tech staff look into this matter.
the only solution of sindh is official division of sindh or urdu speaking senior minister managing affair of urban sindh..or full implementation of 1973 agreement signed leaders of karachi and ppp
@meekal you have told one sided story, what about the human n financial loss of thousands of Sindhis in Karachi n Hyderabad during late 80s n early 90s, they were butchered literally and were dispelled from their high value properties in old Hyd n Latifabad. As they have not any representation in so called national media there miseries never discussed. After partition hundreds of thousand of Sindh fertile land was distributed in non Sindhis n they were also deprived of govt jobs. It was only after Bhutto that Sindhis get some voice in higher power corridors of Islamabad n Karachi and started getting their due share in jobs. The prejudice urban elite has deep hate for rural Sindhis which always exhibit in one or other form, they treat Sindhis as uneducated, non cultured people. Before writing on such issues kindly go through history after partition and see how Sindh was treated like a colony.
@ Mekaal Shahriyar:
I agree with you. PPP has aleays played dirty game of igniting ethnic hatred between Urdu and sindhi speaking people in sindh. Since urdu speaking are not their vote bank, therefore, they do not care of the sufferings of them. It is no secret PPP govt is supporting and patronizing Lyari gangesters. No heed is being taken on the plights and zulm on Kutchi community in Lyari because they are MQM voters. This is the most ugly face of democracy in Pakistan and particularly in Sindh. MQM has only one goal and manzil... to work only and only for their leader, they have badly ignored the interests of urdu speakings in sindh who are their voters. This is very unfortunate for urdu speakings that there is no fullfledged party to struggle for the safeguard of their political and finanacial interests. No strike on usurping the rights of urban sindh by promulgating 1979 local govt. act unilaterally. No protest on appointing sindhi speakings on every key post, now Muzaffar Patti appointed as cheif of Water and sewerage board. In fact urdu speakings are in danger although MQM workers are reluctantly trying to defend theie voters in Lyari and other areas, but very strangely law enforcing agencies are silence and seeing all the havoc. Media has also closed their eyes on Lyari , they only focus on MQM.
@Zain Shah: only an ignorant and ill informed person can ignore the mass scale riots against urdu speaking people in interior sind particularly in larkana during bhutto government in early 70s. Now go to larkana and see how many urdu speaking people are left. From Hala to larkana you'd find local people showing farms, factories (now closed and decrepit) and businesses once owned by urdu speaking people in rural sind and now possessed by waderas after they successfully forced them to migrate under their leadership of their chief bhutto
@meekal shahriyar:
Indeed i believe that the past 4 PPP governments could have made Lyari into an area of business and education. Being close to the port it has a big value for money and business... YET i am saddened by the fact that you mention Urdu speaking people are being forced to migrate again this time from interior Sindh to the main-stream city of Karachi. First and foremost never have Sindhi's been harmful to the Urdu community, I wonder if you have ever visited Interior sindh and have witnessed urdu speaking people and sindhis living together in the same community... they are well over the thoughts of MQM and PPP... they do not care for who is in power and who is not what they care for is themselves and their community. Besides it will be good to mention that urdu speaking ppl do have domination in some parts of interior sindh such as MIRPUR KHAS, TANDO ALLAH YAR, alot of surrounding areas adjoining SUKKUR, few parts of NAWABSHAH, and of course HYDERABAD. Even after being in what you say minority they do have alot of STAKE in the province.
PS: FOR THE SAKE OF GOD LOOK AT THE SITUATION FIRST HAND AND THEN COMMENT BECAUSE WHAT YOUR VIEWS ARE THEY SEEM SOMEHOW TO BE IGNITING A CIVIL WAR OR HATRED FOR JUST ONE COMMUNITY.
The four PPP governments if wanted could make liyari an area of education, business and industry however it kept liyari backward just like the rural sind and engaged the people here in an enmity asgainst urdu speaking people just like it did in sind. PPP successfully routed urdu speaking people in rural sind forcing them to migrate second time (this time from rural sind like larkana to Karachi). Same game is PPP playing in liyari. It's "leader" zulfiqar mirza on live tv proudly told of his feat of distributing 350,000 arms licenses among his "children" of "amn" committee to the cheers of media anchor persons. Now PPP wants to destroy urdu speaking people in Karachi too by extortion and loot. It effectively shut the doors of government jobs through quota system for 40 years and now it's destroying their private businesses also. "Zinda hei Bhutto Zinda hei".
