LAHORE:

The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has approved a revised project for the expansion of Nalay Wali Sarak between LOS Stop on Ferozepur Road and Multan Road at a cost of Rs1.98 billion.

The open Cantt Drain that passes through the congested area will be covered and the existing road made into a three-lane dual carriageway able to accommodate  over 50,000 vehicles a day.

The LDA had earlier approved a Rs630.5 million scheme to improve Nalay Wali Sarak, construct missing links between Multan Road and the Poonch Road bridge, and between Chaudhry Colony and Ferozepur Road.

The junctions were to be widened and road-safety devices installed.

But in view of the increasing traffic load on the road, the LDA decided to revise the project so that it also involves the covering of Cantt Drain. The revised project will enhance the capacity of the drain, building separate conduits for sewage and storm water.

At a governing body meeting here on Tuesday, the LDA also decided to engage the Urban Unit, Punjab, to conduct a feasibility study and select a consultant for the Ravi Zone River Front Development.

The governing body decided to reduce the minimum qualification for the initial recruitment of an assistant director (legal) from five years to two years practice as an advocate.

The meeting was chaired by District Coordination Officer Naseem Sadiq, who is also the LDA chairman, and attended by LDA Director General Ahad Khan Cheema, Additional Director General (Headquarters) Mariam Kayani, Chief Engineer Asrar Saeed Khan, and representatives of the Local Government, Housing, Planning and Development and Finance Departments, and administrators of the nine towns of the city district of Lahore.
