Making history: First female agency surgeon appointed in Kurram

PARACHINAR: In a first for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), a woman has been appointed as an agency surgeon at Agency Headquarters Hospital (AHQ), Parachinar.

Dr Moin Begum was appointed as the agency surgeon by the health department and FATA Secretariat in Kurram Agency and assumed charge on Tuesday.

Before her appointment, Dr Moin was a senior medical officer at Lady Reading Hospital and deputy medical superintendent at Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Lahore. She has also served in Parachinar AHQ as a gynaecologist, but was later transferred to Peshawar.

Addressing journalists from her office in Parachinar, Dr Moin said the government and health department had trusted her with the responsibilities of the post, adding she would strive hard to serve the people of the agency.

Dr Moin added she would work on social and health related issues. “Issues facing women will be my priority, as females across Fata are deprived of their basic rights,” she maintained. “I will struggle hard to educate and provide health facilities for women in the agency.”

abdullah khan | 10 years ago | Reply PTI are breaking Laws and ignoring and disobeying Rules and Regulation 1-The doctor concern is Employ of LRH. She should be promoted or posted with in LRH. This PHC order 2-She is belong to services group not eligible for management post. 3-She is specialist she cannot be appointed on management group post 4-Agency surgeon is supervisory post. Supervising mean visiting different health facility with in Agency. The tribal areas are now a days no goes areas. Majority of residents are living in IDP camps. The male Agency surgeon movement are limited and restricted how can women will supervise the Health facility of TA .it is also a sensitive matter 5-Her only credit is She worked in lahore. She will be recommended by either Imran or NS for the said post 6-Imran selected out of province doctors and make them member of Provincial Working group for Health of KP ignoring KP own doctors.
