Waheed clinches CNS Open title

Golfer looking forward to international events after impressive win.

KARACHI: Waheed Baloch maintained his form on the final day to clinch his first major title, winning the CNS Open Golf Championship at the Karachi Golf Club yesterday.

Waheed, who leapfrogged to the top on the penultimate day after firing a two-under-par 70, was impressive on the final day as well and finished with a four-under 284 to win the professional title. Ahmed Saeed finished second with 287.

Waheed was now looking forward to doing well at future events.

“I’ve been working hard and finally succeeded in winning the major title,” said Waheed. “I see this title as a breakthrough for my career. This win will give me the confidence to do well in international events as well.”

Saeed Khattak won the amateur event after carding 294 ahead of Mustafa Ghani. Fauzia Naqvi clinched the ladies event with a card of 75 with Aania Farooq ended second.

The senior professional title was won by Mohammad Illyas of Lahore Gymkhana followed by Saleem Inayat of KGC.
