Senior MQM leader Sardar Ahmed said that the bill was not a bill in the first place, rather a draft. Moreover time should have been given for consideration and amendments, “They just wanted an outright approval of the finance bill which we strongly opposed.”
According to Ahmed, the MQM has stressed on a tax-free budget in all their speeches yet there were to no avail.
“The chief minister had earlier said in his speech that taxation would not increase, however it has all changed. Property tax itself has been increased from 20% to 25%,” Ahmed said.
“People are already paying enough taxes,” he added.

I live in the heart of the city and in a stronghold of MQM, i.e. Liaquatabad. I have been helping my family by running a small corner shop. After completing my Masters from KU, I was the youngest to pass the PHD aptitude test (from my department), but was denied admission until I provide some reference from APMSO. My old father approached the head of BASR and even had a very small meeting with Registrar (I was out of the city at that time) and tried all his level best to got me admitted, but all the efforts went in vain. And since then I am sitting at the corner shop, selling day to day items, and giving Bhatta in Ramazan each year in the name of Fitra. Amount of Fitra is something around Rs.100 per year per person; but certainly not the 2 full books of Fitra provided to me each year by my neighborhood Unit office. If still you have any doubts, please contact the owner of any corner shop near your house and ask him the details. I hope you won't get disappointed.
@The Paki!: Ease up Sir, it seems you are more driven by hate and prejudice than sanity. My point was wrongly taken, I live in Karachi and care for it alone. Other cities are not my problem, the respective citizens and their representatives should be caring for it.
My concern is no other party except MQM take its owner ship and address its problem at the provincial, national and international level. I can't rely on Arif alvi since he is busy settling scores against drone attacks while Shites in Karachi (the place he is elected from) are killed everyday by TTP. I can't rely on PML-N whose federation is constantly trying to impose undue power cuts on my city. I can't rely on PPP who was exemplary in ignoring not only Khi but the whole country. In this sorrow situation, the only hope for me is MQM and I absolutely condemn the conspirers against MQM. Start to respect MQM and rationalise the way MQM handles the problems of Karachites.

@The Paki!: So doesn't MQM work for Karachi??? Doesn't it work for the betterment of Karachi people including you?? You pay the federation taxes and they plan to cut 650MW of city's electric supply but the only voice against this opression was MQM's whom you pay a minor bhatta. I don't find any problem in paying bhatta as long as it is reflected in good work!!

Taxes should be levied across the board, not just fix salaried and unable-to-voice poor, middleclass and those struggling to make the ends meet.

Sind Finance Bill is full of taxes.It has attempted to levy Service tax on lawyers.Even in India,lawyers are exempted from Service Tax. This levy of tax should be opposed and not passed

Trust MQM for raising voice for the oppressed
Levying more and more taxes on a common man and exempting the rich class will not be acceptable to the masses who are in majority.
The government should first work out as what is the average salary or income of a common man and then make the tax structure.
The repurcurssion of keying more taxes result in corruption and increase in the white collar crimes.
Why there is no tax levied on the big landlords of agriculture land and why the government want to squeeze the last drop of the blood from the body of a common man.
Is there any sense in it or not. If the government has no sense, then it should not be allowed to rule the province. I am talking just in plain words.
