Vacant seats: ECP to conduct by-polls on August 22
The last date for the filing of appeals against the decisions of the ROs has been set as July 22 .
ISLAMABAD:
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced on Friday that it will hold by-elections for 16 National Assembly seats and another 26 provincial assemblies on August 22.
According to a notification issued by ECP here, the public notice regarding the by-elections will be issued by the returning officers (ROs) on July 1 and nomination papers of candidates will be received from July 3 till July 9. The scrutiny process of nomination papers will continue from July 11 to 17.
The last date for the filing of appeals against the decisions of the ROs has been set as July 22 and the tribunals will decide on the appeals till July 29. The candidates will be able to withdraw their nomination papers till July 30 and the ECP will publish the revised list on July 31 and polling will be held on August 22. The campaign period, as specified by the Election Commission, will last from August 1 to Aug 20.
